Amira Learning and Amazon Alexa Partner To Help Early Readers
Amazon Alexa & Amira Learning announce a partnership to use the power of speech recognition and virtual assistants to help young readers.
Amazon Alexa, the Amazon Alexa Fund and Amira Learning, Inc., the first AI-powered reading assistant, today announced a partnership to use the power of speech recognition and virtual assistants to help young readers. The goal of the partnership is to couple Amira’s expertise in bringing reading science to every student with the power of Alexa.
Amazon Alexa and Amira will work together to enable young kids to get help and tutoring as they read and learn. Alexa has become the most widely used virtual assistant in the world, delivering help via billions of devices. Alexa for Education now enables parents to track their student’s progress. The aim of this new initiative is to give parents new tools to help their child become a better reader.
As part of the new partnership, the Amazon Alexa Fund will become an investor in Amira Learning, joining education leaders like HMH Inc and Owl Ventures.
Early reading success dictates life success, as students who are not proficient readers in 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school, have 60% lower employment rates, and experience a 34% decrease in lifetime earnings. Amira is an avatar able to listen to students read out loud, assess their mastery and deliver 1:1 personalized tutoring. Amira is being used by leading school districts, including Savannah Chatham, Stockton Unified, and districts in New York City. Some of the largest school districts in America are using Amira at home to ameliorate the impact of COVID on student progress.
“Amira’s mission is to help every child become motivated and masterful reader. Partnered with Alexa and the AlexaVision Fund is a huge stride towards mission accomplished,” said Mark Angel, CEO of Amira Learning.
