Get Devices (iOS) Ready for Families or Staff
This article is for school or district leaders that are setting up devices to access Amira. Amira is a web-based application that can be accessed from many devices and web browsers. If families are using Amira at home, refer to this Get Your Device Ready article.
Bookmarks & Icons
To help users login to Amira, we recommend bookmarking the website and adding it to the home screen. Most users will access Amira at Ed by visiting www.hmhco.com/one - bookmark or share this link to devices.
If your district is not using Ed, the web address to bookmark or link is https://www.amiratutor.com/

WiFi / Network Speed
District wifi requirements are listed in the IT Information article. For Amira at home usage, most standard internet plans will provide adequate bandwidth. However, internet speed may be variable depending on at home use with other devices. Consider providing families with a school or district contact for troubleshooting their wifi access. For district use of Amira in classrooms we have recommendations for Headset usage. For Amira use at home, we encourage families to find a quiet place for their child to read without a headset. If families choose to use headsets, refer to our headset article and errors FAQ to prepare for troubleshooting.
Device Specific Setup for iPads
Add the Amira website link to the iPad Home screen for quick access (Amira access for staff on iPads is not supported)
From the website, tap the share icon, then tap Add to Home Screen.
The icon appears only on the device where you add it.
Amira Practice has infrequent prompts for students to interact with the screen. As a result, the iPad may "go to sleep" if the auto-lock settings are not adjusted. To adjust the auto-lock timing: from Settings, go to Display & Brightness, find and tap Auto-Lock and choose 15 minutes
When students first visit the Amira website, they will be prompted to allow microphone access. Sometimes students or families will dismiss this prompt or are unsure what to select. To enable the browser to Always Allow use of the microphone, watch this brief video or review this Enable Microphone: Safari article for tips.
Amira will open from Ed: Your Friend in Learning in a new window, so it will be easiest to disable the Safari pop-up blocker. To allow pop-ups: from Settings, go to Safari, find and toggle Block Pop-ups to OFF.
